About Allergies

One in three Australians will be affected by at least one form of allergy during their lifetime, with 20% of the Australian population suffering from hayfever.

Hayfever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) hayfever is generally caused by pollen and grasses, predominantly in spring and summer, although you may suffer at any time of the year. Year round allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis) are mainly caused by dust mites, mould or animal dander and may be present all year round.

Allergies not only cause obvious symptoms such as sneezing, itchy nose and watery eyes, they may also cause sleep deprivation, fatigue, irritability and poor concentration. Because of this they may have a significant impact on performance at work or school.

While allergies are generally mild for most people, it can be a debilitating condition and can significantly reduce quality of life.
